mich-a-versary

Michmansion has turned 1. What a long way the little house has come.

We’ve been working non-stop on the house to get ready for our first overnight house guests! Chris, Jeni and Logan are coming to see me this weekend! But the house was NOT guest ready, nor 1 year old proof.

You ready for the list?
-Paint touch ups
-Painted shutters
-Fixed attic stairs
-Sealed ductwork in attic
-Caulked bathtub
-Hung curtain tie backs
-Painted sunroom
-HUNG ART!

Uh but haven’t finished laundry from the cruise. I guess that is just how it goes.

when it rains too much

when it rains too much
your windshield wiper will break mid-swipe
and dangle perilously as you drive on the freeway

at least our grass is enjoying the rain and is practically a tropical rainforest now.

if you nap does time slow down

I'm busy, and blogging is the first to go.

A sweet little squirrel was napping on our tree roots. It was adorable. Ps I love squirrels.
Does anyone know if the squirrels with white tummies are a different "breed" than the ones with tan tummies? * and yes that is trash in my backyard... i guess we are THOSE people
It got me thinking about napping and then this amazing article appeared in my Real Simple.

Napping, A love story
I consider myself a distinguished napper. I want to be a cat when I grow up. I want my profession to include napping in multiple locations per day, finding warm sunny spots to curl up in, and racking up over 10 hours of napping a day. Seriously. A happy weekend for me consists of naps, plural.

And I have to introduce you to my new best friend, my new favorite piece of writing, an ode to delicious naps. It is incredible. I truly love this woman.

Happy Friday- enjoy a delicious nap this weekend!

and a happy land

Thank you Leah for preserving this memory.

Seeing the cover after all this time- a warmth washes over me. I will cling to this feeling.

make a mighty ocean

Little drops of water
Tiny grains of sand
Make a mighty ocean
And a happy land.

MeeMaw used to read me a book about a bunny who couldn’t fall asleep. He was afraid of the man in the moon, branches scraping the window, footsteps downstairs, he even thought there was a giant giraffe in the bed with him when it was just his stuffed animal. He asked for water, and his blankets smoothed. His mother explained the man in the moon, and gave him a drink of water but always finished with “Now go to sleep.”

I remember how the bunny looked, the illustrations of his imagined foes, his sweet mother tucking him in. I remember MeeMaw giving us two Pringles and a small cup of water before bed, to nibble on during our story. I remember The Sneeches and BarBar and Robert Lewis Stevenson. I do not remember the title of my bunny book.

Maybe I am preparing myself for the future where instead of sitting on the gold and peach couches sharing memories with MeeMaw, memories are all that is left and I cherish them privately.
I want to remember the title of the bunny book. (Google doesn’t remember it either.)

return to the real world

I am cruise-lagged.

I didn't get a 3 course breakfast this morning.
I wasn't rocked to sleep.
I came in to *gulp* work. (shudder)

Imagining I am here...

Doing this...
