Can it be the dog days of summer in June?
I feel boring and stagnant.
I can't really update my blog with stuff I'm not doing. Our lives haven't had much excitement or change lately.
And I'm avoiding writing my quarterly narrative (due today) and I dont even have an idea of what my topic is. When I figure it out I'll be sure to let you know.
:: David is still cold calling. Gross right? but if there was anyone who could cold call it is DP.
:: David is a lot less talkative at home.
:: David might be close to closing a deal sometime in the future. Crossing my figures.
:: 100% commission is scary
:: I had two cups of hot chocolate this morning because I'm an adult and I can do that sort of thing.
:: We sold the dead car. Finally out of the street.
:: Seriously? Another infection? I'm on antibiotics, which I hate, and they hate me and I've been grumpy all week and last week too.
:: My pine trees are dropping their summer needles and I'm avoiding raking.
:: Avoidance is a theme in my life?
:: Neighbor's lawn man ran over my soaker hose, sliced it in 4 places and left it for dead in my driveway. Thank you sir. How kind of you.
:: So You Think You Can Dance has started. YAY!
:: All my instagram pictures are of my cats. I say it with pride.
:: David adopted a stray kitty. I don't say it with pride. We named her Wheels. Another mouth to feed.
:: I've planned a month long get away RV road trip with my mom and Tia Kay. But I haven't told Tia yet and I'm not sure if my mom believes that I'm truly kidnapping her.
:: I've also planned 3 cruises, a tubing trip, layout for a house on the olive ranch and renovations for Michmansion.
:: Still don't have a topic for my narrative.

anatomy of a cat nap
Cat Nap
What it is not-
a short snooze; light refreshing rest in the warm afternoon sun
What it is-
a deep and incapacitating hibernation brought on by a nearby sleeping cat; an infection of slumber; when you wake, 4 hours later, you will be disoriented, sweaty and sit grumpily on the couch waiting for your mental capacities to return.
Used in a sentence:
Saturday we had great plans but instead we cat napped.

Friday is my Favorite
We made it to Friday, last week was incredibly long for a short week and this week felt even longer.
So how about Friday Faves?
:: A couple of weeks ago I got a stye (and a UTI - fun week) and so I stopped wearing makeup to help my eye heal. And the following week I broke out, like BROKE OUT. I had more zits than all my teenage years combined, even cheek zits. Never had a cheek zit before.
I had a coupon for Simple products, so I bought the Face Wipes. I don't like having all the waste from a daily wipe, but I know how much I hate washing my face. Water drips down my neck and my arms and it skeeves me out.

:: We are still on a budget, it doesn't leave much left over for fun. We have the $8 streaming netflicks and dude it is so worth the $8. We are power disc-ers.

So the last three weeks have been a war zone on my skin. I think I'm getting things under control and below is a list of all my favorite skin care products.
I really like these. They don't dry out my skin, but still remove make up and I guess clean my skin well cause Pimple City is on the way to a ghost town.(I'm new to this "washing of the face" stuff)

In the summer we love us some mam's. It's cheap and they are happy colors.
I think we need to have them everyday. I'm getting nectar & icecream (the flavor not the scoop o'icecream) next time I go. Yummers.
Let's go today! Yeah? Anyone?!
:: I never really watched YouTube, just the viral videos and things. I need new music SO bad, I'm in a music slump. So I've been listening to random people's vlogs. It's odd. But entertaining at work.
These are a couple of channels I watch.
:: A few weeks ago I started my gratitude journal. LOVE IT. It is so simple but it truly has changed the way I see the world. I go through the day trying to find good things for my journal. Totally different than I ever have thought before.
"Think positively" is hard to swallow. It is so sparkles and sunshine and I am way too cynical to believe that sugary sentiment. But being thankful in life grounds me, focuses on blessings.
You should try it!

CREATURE
I was visited last night by a
creature.
It slunk under the bed and waited till we were all the way in REM sleep.
It was 2 feet long, had bright green eyes, a hard shell, slobbered all over my hardwood floors.*
Creature
postured, shuffling to get himself ready
SCREEEEEAAAACH*
He howled a Sashquatchian yell.
David and I pulled the covers to our chins, each of us hiding our trembles.
"david... did you...?"
"yes."
He got down on all fours
Slowly peered under the bed only to see
Creature's two green eyes
A heinous growl came from the darkness and*
David jumped back onto the bed.
What would we do? How were we going to survive? There was a vicious creature under our bed wanting us dead, served charbroiled on a sesame seed bun.
It was quiet now.
Just the hum of the ceiling fan.
David turned on the lamp
and got down on all fours
slowly peered under the bed only to see
Nothing. The creature had left as wicked as it had come.
*There was a tiny beetle who made a very loud clicking/hissing noise. David scared it with the flashlight and it was quiet for the rest of the night.

plenty of regrets
MAY 31 2012
*optional soundtrack for today's post*
some people say you should live life with no regrets.
i guess that means they do whatever they want when they want
as much as that sounds appealing
i have regrets
and i dont think they are a bad thing
we make decisions with the information we have at the time
sometimes i make good ones
sometimes i make bad ones
the little things that nag at me
something i said
what i did
and why i did it
they all point to what i need to pay attention to in the future when making decisions
It seems like a long time ago, but I had the opportunity to take a writing workshop with University of Montana, a maymester course. I didn't do it. No singular good reason, just fear. I didn't know anyone, how would I get around, where would I live, how would we pay for this, what if I'm not a good writer and fail miserably.
I was afraid.
It was a big mistake. A huge regret of mine.
My sophomore year I decided I wanted to leave ACU and go to UofH to study creative writing. I was accepted into the program and went through orientation. I left my appointment where I signed up for classes and I was afraid. I didn't do it. No singular good reason, just fear and listening to what others wanted for me.
It was a big mistake. I never should have gone back to Abilene.
I regret this move more than any other so far in my life.
but clearly i'm regretting denying my gifts
i regret mostly trying to force myself into something i know instinctively
does not fit me
do you ever buy a garment even though
you dont like it
it doesn't fit
it is not your style
but it's cheap?
do you ever really wear that jacket or those pants, that top? Nope.
if it feels wrong now
chances are it is wrong
I have regrets
And they guide me where I need to be
And teach me how not to make decisions
- don't live by fear
- listen to your instincts
- you can't deny your true self
This is a pretty good road map.

Friday A++
*Tip Toed over to Mam's for a snoball. Orchid & Cream. (my mouth literally just watered)
*Berryhill Fish Tacos at the early bird hour of 430pm (David went to a broker event on wed and was handed cash for showing up. we weren't responsible, we didn't pay bills, we ate and ate and ate with our treat money)
*We had dessert at Ruggles Bakery on the patio.
CHOCOLATE. TRES.LECHES (do you need me to repeat that for you?)
CHOCOLATE TRES LECHES
I couldn't even get a picture of it, just an empty plate and an AM with a crazy sugar high and full tummy.

*Night at my mom's checking on Mav & Jojo and trying to finish Game of Thrones before it disappears off their On Demand.
Saturday & Sunday B
*We cleaned and took care of Mary. No pictures needed.
I organized my bathroom cabinet and it was g-ross!
*Checked on Holt Street and MeeMaw's roses are blooming. Teensy tiny white fragrant roses.
*And we watered the trees. I was hoping this would be our rain dance and would bring rain to the area, but it did not. Maybe I should get the car washed...
Memorial Monday A
*David was kind enough to regale his adventures in the navy, and I got the full rundown of every carrier he has been on. Which was very exciting.... but not really.
*We had lunch at my parents. It had been a looooooong time since both my parents were in town at the same time. Glad for a mini vacation for my dad and my GiGi's improving health so I could have dinner with them both.
Steak, veggies, potato salad, corn & peaches n'cream blue bell
Americana or what?
may days
MAY 15 2012
It is May.
Already.
Did you know that? Well it is, even if you still think it is April.
:: Grooming. I need a hair cut so bad. I miss Darcy. She probably thinks I broke up with her. But my hair is long and shaggy whilst saving for a Darcy cut. I'm asking for a hair cut for my birthday.
Also my adorable (not) little (not) mustache needs dealing with. As in, I have a better mustache than dp. Love getting older (not).
:: The past month or two Dp & I have found 6 cars we like and would buy. So we drive out to the car dealership and get there and someone is in the office signing the papers right then and there. Monday we found a car we didn't hate.
Car Requirements:
1. Does dp fit?
2.Can dp drive without his knees activating the turn signal?
3. That's all.
Anyways, we bought a car. And now starts the praying that he won't break this one. 2 cars in as many years is not a good track record. I should have bought him a bicycle.
:: David finished his course work for his real estate license due largely to my father forcing him to sit down after Friday Night Mexican and completing quizes together, while my mom and I read free kindle books and tell Mav and Jojo to stop "wrestling."
:: I really dont like the spring. Can you get seasonal depression in the spring? I'm noticing a pattern. I have no concrete complaints about the spring, but every April I'm ready for a 3 month nap. With all my "feelings," stress and anxiety I've just been a big mess.
I saw this video a few months ago. But I really think I need to hear this, especially in the spring.
It is May.
Already.
Did you know that? Well it is, even if you still think it is April.
:: May is always a great month at work because we aren't closing the quarter. There are just 3 small months a year when we aren't analysing leasing activity, vacancy rates, projections for next quarter. May is a catch up/ clean up month.

:: I've been feeling the need to be creative. I know this because I get restless, start painting my nails crazy colors, researching new hair colors and feeling insatiably RESTLESS.
So I painted our porch rug.
I hate it.
Adjustments need to be made, and if it stays dry this weekend (I'm not complaining, after last year I welcome whatever amounts of rain wish to fall on my tress & lawn) I'll add stripes or something.

preparations
MAY 25 2012
I'm not the most prepared, with-it, or organized person. I'd say I pretty much tie for the least. But I did move 40,000 times in the last 10 years. Most of this post comes from moving and needing to be ready to move with little notice and figure out how to divide up our stuff.
June 1st marks the first day of hurricane season.
Houstonians are lucky to not have many tornadoes but we do have to be prepared for the chance hurricane.
This is my hurricane preparedness plan.
First things First
At the beginning of June I buy our case of water, check our batteries, and get a few extra cans of beans and peanut butter.
Done. I'm prepared and don't have to freak out in late August when there is a storm and the stores are swarmed with people.
Backup Backup Backup
People. All you people out there! You have to back up your files. We don't live in the age of photo albums and file cabinets anymore.
Get an external hard drive. You only need about 50-150 GB, unless you are a professional photographer, and if you are what are you doing reading my sad little blog?! When I download pictures from my memory card I put them on my computer and also my external, right away. Then once I've amassed a large amount of photos I burn them onto cds.
You can look into a cloud storage service. I find them a little creepy, I can't release my stuff into the world like that. Cloud storage for me is back up disks at my parents house. But I am just paranoid. If you aren't, they are pretty handy. They back up every night, and delete duplicate files so you aren't wasting space and you never have to think about an external hard drive or back up disks. Easy Peasy.
Just remember Big Brother is watching....
Emergency Bin!
I have three Emergency Bins.
One has our water, canned food, and batteries ect. It's also known as our camping bin.
Second is my keepsake bin.
Stuff is just stuff. But anything that I can't replace I keep in that bin.
Letters from David
Valentines from MeeMaw
Special photos & negatives
Various memories from childhood
Old journals
Back up disks!
It always stays in a bin, ready to go. This is a bin I've had for a while, it was my "It always travels with me" Bin. No matter what crazy move or how many trips or storage units, this bin rides with me in the car across country.
Third is our travel file cabinet.
This was our file cabinet for many years because I never got around to unpacking it.
It is just a file storage container with a handle. I can grab our files and drop them in very quickly. I have our super important stuff like birth certificates, social security, passports somewhere safe but I'm not going to say where. Big Brother reads my blog. But I'd suggest that you put it all together in a place you can grab and go super fast. However, it is replaceable so don't lose any sleep over it.
Remember EVERYONE
Lastly I keep our kitty carriers super easily accessible, I could find them in the pitch dark. We have back up meds & food for the cats in our hurricane bin since Rigby is on Rx everything! If your puppies or kitties need anything special, have it ready so you can scoop them up and run.
A friend of my mom's had to get out of her house in a split second cause flood waters were rising and the rescue boat was ready to go. So she stuffed her cat in a pillow case and ran. I'll admit I keep two extra pillow cases by the bed in case of a tornado or fire.
So that is it!
I'm paranoid.
And you are probably understanding my anxiety issues now. But really I don't have to worry about any of these things because we are prepared, and it doesn't take much time to get ready. This is as far as my disaster preparedness goes.
And I feel like a smarty pants blogger cause I'm prepared for one thing really well and don't you all look up to me now? I'm beaming with pride!

sailboat
Slumpy and
Nappy.
Loves his water and his snuggles.
But poor thing is crazy.
Abbey Darling is sweet, and polite.
Manipulative but I respect her genius.
Rigby loves his mommy but
his greatest love is treats.
He knows the words, he can read our minds, he thinks any krinkly plastic is a treat bag.
On nail trimming day
we are stealthy, so we think,
sneak into the bedroom, quietly open the drawer and extract the clippers, turn around to tip toe out of the bedroom
HE IS IN THE DOORWAY
mmmmeeeeeeeooooooooow?!
How does he know?
He can't sit still during his trimmy because he wants a
treat
so bad
it hurts him to wait.
You can not say the word "treat"
without his chorus.
So in our house
Treat is Sailboat
ps- yes Button's feet are as squishable as they look and Abbey doesn't care at all about treats but she does love her warm bathwater
