to church

At Christmas we recieved the greatest gift: starting the first of the year we would get our weekends back. Mary now has help everyday of the week and we just fill in case of emergencies and spend time with them as a family.

I intended to spend the first free weekends just resting. And surprisingly it is already the end of February.
We were very tired.

I probably should feel guilty for not being at church and nurturing those relationships, but the truth is I had nothing to give. I guess I was so exhausted it has taken 2 months of just mushy brain and body to recover.

However, now I am in this new territory. I want to go back, but we have been gone so long now it is kinda awkward.

I try to give up something for Lent, I've done candy, soda, fast food, chocolate, complaining, ect.
This year I am going to add something back in.

I am going back to church.

Ps- I will probably keep going after Easter.

upcycle

I went shopping in my closet this weekend.
Histpers call that upcycling. Translation - free.

Saturday I saw a sign that said "Free Stuff." yuck right? But I am a budget conscious lady these days, and it was in Bellaire. (Rich people's trash is my kind of treasure) A garage sale was shutting down and they were liquidating. I could have taken all kinds of junk, to sit in my house until I lug it to Goodwill. So we graciously took, for free, a lamp, a brand new frame, a bird feeder and artist charcoals.

Then I went in my closet and found close to 15 bras. (Mom always told me to bring an extra bra on a trip because you don't want the strap to break and be flappin around. She said it just like that too. And told me to change my undies everyday.) Somehow I interpreted the "bring 2 bras on vacation" into "don't ever throw away an old brassiere."

I found 6 bras that work just fine and I am wondering why I delegated them to my old bra/sock drawer in the first place. Upcycling.

I also made a commitment to wear all the clothes that I have that do fit yet I dont wear because who wants to wear a button down when you can wear a cardi, but a girl can't just wear cardis and micro-ribbed tanks no matter how easy and comfortable and black they are. How much were these new button downs? Free.

I apologize. That wasn't interesting, but you read it anyway. I'll refund your money and give you a complementary electronic high five. **high five**

how i met my wife

While David is looking for a job he is being a great wife. Really. He cleans, does laundry, vacuums, does trash and litter boxes.

And goes to the grocery store.

The scene is set. Let's listen in...

DP: I guess Heidi isn't doing Project Runway this season because of all her problems.
Me: Uh what problems?
DP: Her family problems.
Me: She is probably just busy with her babies and husband.
DP: Nu uh, Heidi and Seal are getting a divorce.
Me: WHAT?!
DP: Yeah, where have you been? Its all over the magazines in the checkout line.

Tomorrow he is going to tell me how much he misses OLTL and Oprah all whilst being manly and shooting terrorists in some war game thingy.

favorite things- gift review!

I was supposed to have my thank you notes written by Feburary and noticed yesterday I did not achieve that goal. I'm seriously going to be writing all my correspondence this weekend. On my honor.

Favorite things this Friday are inspired by thank you notes!

Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain 168 Ounce D2WB-REKitty Water Fountain
Yes I am a crazy nut and asked Santa for a water fountain for my kitties. And they like it. I guess I thought they'd love it and invite all their kitty friends to a fountain party then I'd come home to cats in bikinis passed out with one paw in the fountain.
They don't love it that much, but they get fresh running, filtered water which can't be THAT bad, right?

Kitty Window Seat
I used some Christmas money to buy my kitties a window seat. I have mentioned how Michmansion doesn't have window sills, it is weird, but we don't. We had been using an old dish barrel box from a move. But it really only had space for 1 kitty and they had some trouble sharing. Until I found the TROFAST at Ikea and some carpet remnant in my mom's garage.
Kitties are in LOVE. Abbey particularly loves taunting the scary pitbulls next door. ;)

Mini 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set - Brights
Urban Decay Eye Pencil Set
I have never worn eyeliner. It is scary and scratchy and smudgy. I am intimidated.
But, I figured I am almost 30 years old and I should be able apply a little liner. I research and purchased this Urban Decay set and have been "wearing" eyeliner everyday since (ha!), but not very well. I think I still need lessons, but the colors are cool.

Aerolatte 28 Milk Frother with 2AA Batteries - Matte FinishAerolatte Frother
Like hot chocolate? Coffee? Hate stirring?
But seriously, I didn't really have a problem with the stirring but thought hey, a gadget! It is pretty nice. We always have clean spoons now, mostly because David uses my frother more than I do. He likes a gadget too.

My mom also got me an immersion blender! Woo! I haven't used it yet. In the months leading up to Christmas I would say to my self, oh an ib would be great for this... and now that I have one I can't think of anything to immersion blend. Suggestions?

One more for the road, cause we all wish we could nap in the sun.
