I love my friends!

Sometimes I forget how much I love my friends. I am living by my self in a new town and some days can be lonely. I got to talk to my two best friends today and it truely lifted my spirits. There is so much happiness in friendship, I wish I was better at making them.

I am thankful for my best friend Christi. I love Christi so much, she is so understanding and fun loving and adventurous. She is the most fun you could have and I have so many memories of boring days in Abilene that became FAB with Christi. I remember being in Abilene after Christimas before everyone else got back and we lived off of Starburst and rootbeer and Sonic brown bag meal deals. Me and Christi are the kind of friends that could giggle all day in bed or not see each other for 6 months and pick up where we left off. I am also thankful for my best friend Brianne. I met Brianne in college and I am drawn to her sweet spirit. But Brianne is not all sweet shrinking violet. There were some wild times trying to annoy our neighbors and *cough stealing a wide load sign off of a truck cough* (you didn't hear that from me). Brianne is a lot of fun but she is still so loving and caring. I miss her methodical making of the bed, I am sure she missed making mine. :) And my most best friend that has been with me from the start, Leah. Sisters are so cool. I love Leah. I wish we could hang out more but she is always there for me when I need her, through the really tough stuff. Like boring family get togethers and midnight candy cravings. We have a special friendship that can only be descibed as sisters.

I also love my Abbey. She is the best friend to me right now. She knows when it is time to come sit next to me and cheer me up. I believe that everyone should have pets. It is biblical. God is the first animal lover, after all He made the animals first, and Adam and Eve took care of the animals, and there are animal metaphors through out the Bible. Yup God loves the kitties and the puppies and all the other fun little animals. Me I love (and miss) the squir-rals. Those cute little squeaky squir-rals. But Abbey is my pet for right now. And I do love her. She came to me when I needed a friend most and I get I was the same for her. Awww sweet Abbey.

God is good to provide such good friends, and even when I feel the most alone there is always some friend waiting just a phone call away. I love my friends.

Congrats Sox. Great Job 'Stros!

I am not at all dissapointed in the Astros performance. It would have been unbelievable if they would have won. But I am so proud of my team they have proven they can be up there at the top. The White Sox had a lot going for them this season, great pitching and determenation and some lucky breaks.

But I love the Astros. I have loved them as a losing team and now as a winning team and I still think they are the best. I will always be an Astros fan. Houstonians lets hear it for our boys!

What do normal people do?

It has been a hard long day, everything seems to going wrong and you are just pooped. What do you do? Duh you order a pizza, or dig in to a carton of ice cream, or go out and buy a new top or a new dvd. Come on it is only human right?

according to Oprah and health nuts you can't do this. WHAT?! Then what? Exercise? For real how is that comforting at all?

So I am up in here in P.O. by my self and I miss my husband and to make my self feel better I am going to exercise? Puh-leeez. I already "exercise" but I want to feel good. I want something to do. I want Italian food, I want a warm brownie topped with ice cream and caramel sauce, I want Lupe's fajitas and Ninfa's green sauce. And I want to go out and buy things for our new apartment. But they say I am not supposed to do these things. So now what?

I am wondering what everyone else does when they feel yucky, when they want to spice up their lives a little bit. Or is it a lie that people don't eat for fun or don't shop to cheer themselves up. Any suggestions?

Ethics in Baseball?

Game Two of the World Series and I am thinking about ethics in baseball. Not to accuse anyone of anything other than looking out for their own self intrest. But first let me take you back to the controversy that will follow the White Sox
for-ev-va. (<-- classic Sandlot reference)

"The 1919 World Series resulted in the most famous scandal in baseball history. Eight players from the Chicago White Sox (later nicknamed the Black Sox) were accused of throwing the series against the Cincinnati Reds. Details of the scandal and the extent to which each man was involved have always been unclear. It was, however, front-page news across the country and, despite being acquitted of criminal charges, the players were banned from professional baseball for life. The eight men included the great "Shoeless" Joe Jackson; pitchers Eddie Cicotte and Claude "Lefty" Williams; infielders Buck Weaver, Arnold "Chick" Gandil, Fred McMullin, and Charles "Swede" Risberg; and outfielder Oscar "Happy" Felsch." (article and image courtesy of the Chicago Historical Society, http://www.chicagohs.org/history/blacksox.html )

Well, it seems as if the curse of poor ethics follows them still today. In the seventh the home base umpire called Dye hit by a pitch. He was obviously not, it hit his bat. But Dye got on base adding an extra run. But I am not complaining that the White Sox won or even that those runs were scored. Dye didn't even admit that he wasn't hit, that the call should have been called a foul. Whether or not the umpire would have changed his call is up to him. It just seems that in the world series lets not say that we got hit buy a pitch when it really hit the bat and was a foul ball. It seems a lot like cheating to me, in a lying by omission kind of way. It is a little different than thinking you got to the base before the ball or that the pitch was a ball. Come on Dye at least admit that it didn't hit you.

Well, Astros you have a chance now in your home town. If we win this series or if we don't I am proud of our Astros for making it this far and really working hard. We love the Houston Astros. We loved them before and we will love them after, whatever the outcome of this game might be.

P.S.- I don't want to sound like a sore loser. In the White Sox defense they have said nice things about the Astros and have been a good team to play against. At least it aint the Yankees.

Astros have a new Mascot

The Astros have a new mascot. If anyone thought Houstonians didn't care about sports or baseball, they are wrong! Abbey BEGGED me to help her get ready for the series. I think she looks wonderful!!! What do you think? Is your whole family rootin' for the 'Stros?

One More Goodbye

Today is a sad day. It is the one year anniversary of my sweet Junipurr's passing. It has been a hard year of missing her. I love her still. Her space could never be filled in my life and I still have not made it to where I can think about her without crying.

She passed suddenly on a wednesday night. I was at church and as I was leaving I felt angry and frustrated and cried all the way home. I thought I was just stressed out and having womanly mood swings. I cried to my friend Brianne and told her that I was having an emotional breakdown. The next day something lifted my spirits that was most surely a gift from Juni. The stray kitties that would sometimes sleep on my porch were all there to kiss me. I emailed my mother to tell her about my bad day and the kitties that had made it better. Little did I know my sweet was already gone. My father called me that night and told me. That was the worst pain and a really hard night.

It is also a reminder of our other cat who left us just before that, Blackie aka Pookie. It seems almost cruel to lose them both. But I write this blog to honor them. Their spirits were so kind and generous and so loving. Blackie was with us for a long time and had grown into her quirky personality. She drooled and licked fingers and had a... unique meow. But I loved Pookie. She was a great napping partner and I miss watching her frolic in our backyard in Bellaire. The greatest thing about Blackie was her BIG miracle. She had disappeared and we feared the worst and we were moving soon. But Blackie came home! I never hugged her so hard. Juni came when I could not have been anymore dorky and stuck in middle school hell. She was my best friend and the most beautiful, photogenic cat you have ever seen. Juni loved to play with bottle caps, squish into boxes and eat my hair, yes eat my hair. I wish I had more time with her, but the time we did have was more than special.

I loved my sweet Juni. And I hope her little spirit is happy and knows how much I love her. She was a wonderful cat and changed my life. She gave me so much happiness and I love her for it.

Here You Me (for Juni)

There's no one in town I know
You gave us some place to go.
I never said thank you for that.
I thought I might get one more chance.

What would you think of me now,
so lucky, so strong, so proud?
I never said thank you for that,
now I'll never have a chance.

May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.

And if you were with me tonight,
I'd sing to you just one more time.
A song for a heart so big,
God wouldn't let it live.

May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.
Hear you me my friends.
On sleepless roads the sleepless go.
May angels lead you in.
May angels lead you in.

WORLD SERIES HERE WE COME!!

Can not believe it. The Astros did it. We are going to the world series. Woopie!!! I am speechless. Look out the Astros are on fire and ready for the series. This is an amazing feeling.
Saturday 7:30 et/ 4:30 pt watch it!

Today is the Day

Today is the Day! Lets all root for the 'stros. My entire family has waited for this day for years and year, my dad since he was 8 years old and me since I was 4. We are an Astros family.
They are not the best team in baseball, they didn't start out so great this season, but we are scrappy. In keeping with Texas's history, we are fighters. We didn't come to this country and get easy, pre-settled land. Texas was wild, and we fought for our foothold. And I believe the Astros will do the same! I believe.
But, if they don't go to the series, will we be ashamed? NO! Astros fans are just as scrappy as the team. We don't love the Astros because of how many penants and series titles they have. We are loyal because it is good baseball.
Can I get a "what what" for the Astros?!? If I were a cheerleader I would lead you all in a cheer, but alas I have never had school spirit before. But I do have the spirit and the pride for the Houston Astros. Yeah!

Livin' Like A Tourist

My parents and I got to do some tourist-like stuff today. Stuff that I probably wouldn't have done really. How often do we live near really cool stuff and get stuck in a mundane life? Living in Houston we are surrounded by the best restaurants in the country. (I am willing to argue anyone on this!) Yet, we go to the same old restaurants over and over. And fun cool places we reserve for we have family or friends from out of town; our motive to show them what a neat place we live in. (Yes, even I am guilty of this in my beloved Houston... to some extent.)

Living in a place like we do I am hoping me and David, granted if he ever is in Port Orchard, don't get stuck in a huge rut. We have Seattle just a short ferry ride away, with shopping, concerts and neat restaurants. The water front in P.O. is so cute with shops and sea food restaurants literally just down the street from us. We can drive 10 minutes from our apartment and cut our own Christmas tree, but we haven't figured out how we will get it home. There is all kind of outdoors stuff like camping, skiing, fishing, hiking and so much more. I am going to make it a point that we get up and DO something while we have the chance to experience something different. And the same for where else we get sent on this wild Navy journey. Italy, England or where ever!

Try some new little restaurant in your area. Go down the street that you've always wondered where it went. Stop in the little gift shop boutique you say you are going to stop in but never do. Be adventurous and take advantage of the great earth God has made for us.

Ahhh. Ok, my inspirational talk out of the way. David has to retake the SATs. Yuck, I know. So as I quiz him, I realize how little of Algebra 2 and Geometry I remember. I though it would be fun to study along with him. Can you figure out any of these problems. I will reveal the answers tomorrow. Good Luck!

SAT ?
A special lottery is to be held to select the student who will live in the only deluxe room in a dormitory. There are 100 seniors, 150 juniors, and 200 sophomores who applied. Each senior's name is placed in the lottery 3 times; each junior's name, 2 times; and each sophomore's name, 1 time. What is the probability that a senior's name will be chosen?

(A) 1/8
(B) 2/9
(C) 2/7
(D) 3/8
(E) 1/2

David Has Left the Building

Well Daivd is up in the air on his way to San Diego, where he will be for a month. It is kinda tough saying goodbye so soon after we have arrived here in P.O. It just doesn't seem as happy of a place without him.

Being so far away from my family, Friday Night Mexican Food Night, and everything else I knew really makes you think about what home is. In college I would catch my self calling the dorm home. But Houston was always real home. Now that I am married and my parent's house is not my home, it is funny trying to figure out what home is. Washington is not yet my home. Although I love P.O. The people are just as friendly as Texans... Well, maybe, and the land is pretty. But I still don't consider this my home. I guess all of that takes time. Maybe I am still hoping that David will walk through that door and say just kidding lets go get some Ninfa's in Houston.

As sad as I am about David leaving, and I am (case in point the crying sniffly mood I have been in for the past 3 days) I am definitely excited about seeing my parents and ta da ABBEY IS IN THE BUILDING!!! My kitty has come to her new home. I won't expect her to think it is home, if I don't either. We will help each other learn. It will be fun to have my parents here and have people in the house and ease the loss of David.

So cross your fingers that David will have email while he is out to sea, or it will be one month of no communication. We have done it before, but who wants to?

*A Christi Saying* Why do they call it a building and not a built?

Turning a New Leaf

I am starting new. A new wife, in a new town, in a new state, no new job yet but still looking.

Port Orchard is our new home. It is a cute little town with trees, mountains and pretty fall leaves. David is stationed on the Stennis which is docked just a few miles away. I am looking for a job of some sort, possibly more school.

It is good to be starting new. But I do miss my home, Texas, my family and familiarity. Mostly I miss my kitty Abbey. This weekend Abbey will be flying up with my parents! Just as Abbey arrives David leaves for San Diego for a month or so. Oh the woes of military life. It never seems to work out the way we want it too. But that is our weight to bear with David in the Navy.

So there is a lot of new in my life. Along with my new blog!
