little things

The Countdown is getting smaller and smaller, trip anxiety is growing and growing. I really shouldn't be allowed travel, I get so worked up before hand. Big knot in my stomach when I think about less than a week.

Anyhoo, a couple noteworthy things to keep my mind off of trip anxiety:

1. KCP wins a giant award for surprising me WITH MY CEREAL on Sunday. I kinda wanted to cry happy tears but was a teense embarrassed. It is as delicious as I remember!

2. BIGGEST OMG EVER! The Little Couple- Bill and Jen came into David's work last night! I'm still giddy.

ps- #3
I got asked if I was 17 this weekend! When I am 36 will I look 27?! When I am 45 will I look 36?! Hoping this trend continues. ;)

getting back on the trail

Poor Melissa- about once a week she gets to hear me whine about how I miss my cereal, Post Trail Mix Crunch. I think I have mentioned how I hate yogurt, the texture, the flavor. Yucky. But I found a yogurt that wasn't horrible mostly because I had my cereal... But alas my cereal is no where to be found.

Being fed up with sad attempts at substitution I wrote Post and impassioned email AND got a response!

we stopped by

I think we visited everyone we knew in the DFW area this weekend. I can not believe we crammed it all in.

The goal was to go up for my best friend Jeni's mom's wedding, see Logan before his 1 year b-day, Grandaddy's 80th birthday, meet our new twin cousins.

Friday
Spent the morning/afternoon at the dr's. (long story)
Left Houston at 330ish.
Got to Lewisville in time to meet people at the rehearsal dinner.
Jeni and I got froyo and David and Chris played video games... you can almost hear dp's happy gargle in the distance

Saturday
Woke up, went to the church, got the ladies dressed.
Had a wedding!
Left Lewisville at 330ish (a trend this weekend) to head toward Ft. Worth.
Played pear pickin' outside, wagon rides, slide all before dinner.
Grammy icecream! oh wow.
Talked with the cousins, and played with the boys.

Sunday
Woke up, played with the boys and went on the where is the red truck hunt.
David realised he left all his clothes in Lewisville.
930 we head back to Lewisville, pick up clothes, and watch Logan open his birthday present.
Onward to Dallas!
Met Elizabeth and Isabella, David's cousin's new twins.
Had lunch with Aunt Marilyn, Lisa, Lori, Voung and Miles the doggie.
330 left for Houston

Goals achieved!

Of course I didn't get pictures of the important stuff, like granddaddy blowing out the candles, or the wedding, or the new twins... But here is the good stuff!

a time to plant and a time to uproot

I have another busy weekend ahead. I don’t enjoy being busy, but this weekend is a busy family weekend- no running involved!

Timing has been on my mind lately. Our timing vs God’s timing.

I was up for a job last October and I got it, but some people left our company and the position was no longer available. I was so disappointed. But if I had gotten that job I would have no had the opportunity for my current position. I really like what I do now and probably wouldn’t be as happy if I had gotten the first job. God’s timing vs my timing.

Its hard not to get frustrated with God and life when it just doesn’t go the way I want it to, when people leave us too soon, when our timing is so far off. Sometimes I try to look past the hurt of now to a time where all wounds are healed and all pain taken away. Sometimes I just don't understand. Today I just feel lucky for the day.

(and while my brain knows all this, my heart just feels and still aches)

i ran a red light

June is a busy month for us this year and we kicked off the first weekend in June with a packed weekend.

How can I have more if I haven’t had any yet?
Friday night Mexican was a little different. We went to Amazon Grill, it is kind of ridiculous good. Got my normal #7 Puntas with the black bean sauce. (eat it. it is incredible), this fresh jicama salad called escabeche vegetables- love love love.

Then somehow I convinced us to get the s’mores. I had fun eating them, David had fun burning things. It was kinda perfect. And it made me want to go camping.

I ran a red light… literallySaturday was our 5k Heights Fun Run. This one was a lot more enjoyable, 90% shade, a breeze, and lots of great people watching. Oh yeah and we didn’t have to walk on a slanted freeway entrance.

My goal was to run more than we did on the last one, which was easy considering I was dead at mile one in our last 5K. And I can say I ran under many red lights up and down Heights Blvd. Silly pun.

Yes Ma’ams!
Saturday evening we got Spanish Flowers, delish. I just can’t live without that place. And then we stopped by Mam’s House of Ice for our first snowball of the season. YAY! We got blackberry and some kind of orchid cream. Yumms! (I had intended on taking a picture, but I ate it…)

Still on Saturday, we parked in my garage and walked to the ball game (free parking!). But we walked a ton that day. Game was fun, I like going to the ball park, it is just a fun experience. It was a pretty full park considering how much we suck as a team.

We tried practicing picture taking because we have under 20 days till the cruise and Dp always makes weird faces in pictures. See…
*We were playing the cubs and dp definitely did wear Cub's blue...

RexySunday we got to meet “little” Rex. He was 22” when he was born!! He is a cutie. Can you tell from the fuzzy pic? Thanks David. We are going to have to practice practice practice before we cruise.
My Brown ThumbI murder plants. Gosh I really wish I had a green thumb and wouldn’t kill everything that comes into my possession. So I had two plants some lavender or sage or something and a blue daze that weren’t completely dead, so I dug out all the crispy brown guys from my pots and watered the “still living” plants. So I get it now, you have to water the plants… right, we’ll try that this time.

I can’t wait to drive up to my house tonight and see the porch free of Plant-Morgue.

CRUISIN’EEEEEEP is the only sound I can make to convey the excitement I have for the cruise! But the past couple of weeks of book hunting have not produced a reading selection for the cruise.

Help! How do I pick a great book/s for my trip?

turned upside down

Rigby has started sleeping up by my pillow, and for the smallest of creatures he can take up quite a bit of room. If you recall we have a past with the tiny bed syndrome. Abbey never seems to be a problem because she comes and goes (she has to make night rounds, yes listen up burglars I have a night guard). Rigby is like a ton of bricks, when he goes down he is out for the night.

Phase 1- PreKitties
Phase 2- Kitten Invasion

Phase 3- Kitten Take Over
Smart people would do one of three things to solve this special issue
1. Move kitty
2. Get a bigger bed
3. Don’t let the kitty sleep with you

I’m not smart. I say:
1. I’m just happy kitty is sleeping with me
2. We just got a headboard for this bed…
3. Wait, what? Where else would they sleep? I’m confused…

See, I’m a doormat when it comes to the wee ones. They say move, I say ok. This weekend I tried something new, crazy and different. I slept upside down, with my head at the foot of the bed. It was rather enjoyable. I woke up about once wondering where I was but realized I had so much room and didn’t care and went back to sleep.
David drew all the pictures, I love how he is so small.... he has absolutly nothing to do with the problem... nothing.

razor's edge

I had a relapse this past week. With a heavy heart and burning throat I couldn't think about exercising nor eating right, in fact I had a coke float for dinner on Friday and passed out at 8. (almost a near repeat of monday minus the coke float)

If anyone has ideas on how to cheer yourself up without coke floats, and angel hair pasta, queso and tortillas, drippy hamburgers, and chick-fil-a let me know. I also tried retail therapy, and kitten holding all of which make me feel guilty.

David heard somewhere that men's brains are like waffles and women's brains like spaghetti. I try and set my brain on a trajectory that won't come back to our sad news about MeeMaw, but all my spaghetti is connected and I end up at the beginning. It's been a struggle.

However, as MeeMaw reminded me, it is good to be alive.

And with these precious ones, I believe her.

A modern Razor's Edge...
"It's hard to remember we're alive for the first time. It's hard to remember we're alive for the last time. It's hard to remember to live before you die. It's hard to remember our lives are such a short time, it's hard to remember when it takes such a long time. It's hard to remember."-Modest Mouse
